Venta Baja

The local village is a 5 minute drive away. Here you will find a small grocery shop, superb butchers and various bars and restaurants.

Velez Malaga

Velez Malaga is a Moorish town complete with a castle and steep narrow streets. It also boasts a new shopping and leisure centre, multi-screen cinema and a water park. (20 minutes from La Catana)

Torre del Mar

Torre del Mar is the nearest beach and is very popular with the Spanish. There is a lovely promenade and fantastic seafood restaurants. (20 minutes from La Catana)

Lake Vinuela

Lake Vinuela, as featured in "A place in the sun." Overlooking the lake is a fantastic hotel set in beautiful grounds, which is fast becoming a focal point for those interested in water sports and fishing. (5 minutes away from La Catana)

Alcaucin

Alcaucin is a fine example of the "white-washed villages" of Andalusia and has 6 restaurants and bars. (5 minutes from La Catana)

Parque Natural Sierra Tejeda y Almijara

Parque Natural Sierra Tejeda y Almijara is a natural park with endless tracks and footpaths and open access to hills and mountains. (10 minutes from La Catana)

Malaga

The city of Malaga is a thriving commercial centre, with a charming historic quarter beneath the Moorish castles. A wander through the bustling streets discloses places of interest such as the birthplace of Picasso. With the newly opened Picasso museum, the cathedral, bullring and a Roman amphitheatre, Malaga is full of things to see. Nearby are attractions such as Sea world, a Safari Park, Crocodile Park, water parks and exceptional botanical gardens. (60 minutes from La Catana)

Rhonda

Rhonda is surrounded by spectacular scenery and is one of the most popular inland locations for visitors. With its impressive deep gorge, historic buildings and the oldest bullring in Spain (1785) it's definitely worth a visit. (60 minutes from La Catana)

Nerja

Nerja is the closest sea side town with its famous caves, wonderful beaches and the stunning Balcon de Europa. Take a walk on the palm tree lined promenade and soak up some sun. (25 minutes from La Catana)

Granada

Granada is home to the world famous Alhambra Palace. (90 minutes from La Catana)

Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada, Europes most southern Ski resort which hosted the World Alpine Ski Championship in 1996 is perfect for skiing in winter, and walking and mountain biking in summer. Many locals make the trip for some sunshine skiing. If you get up earlier enough it is even possible to ski in the morning and be on the beach in the afternoon! (90 minutes from La Catana)

Marbella

Marbella and the prestigious resort of Puerto Banus with its renowned port. (90 minutes away from La Catana)

Cordoba and Seville

Cordoba and Seville are two cities rich in history. (120 minutes away from La Catana)

Golf

There are two very good 18 hole courses nearby- Baviera Golf (20mins) and Club Anoreta (25mins). There are also lots of other golf courses in the area within an hours drive.

Eating Out

There are many restaurants and bars within easy reach, catering for all tastes and pockets. In the narrow streets of the "white-washed villages" you can find tapas bars offering local dishes, cured hams and wines including the sweet Moscatel.
